Stéphanie Sophie Louis: A Symbol of Youthful Commitment for Haiti’s Real Development

Stéphanie Sophie Louis is the name of this young Haitian woman who is fully committed to the fight for the development of her country. A political scientist, activist, entrepreneur, and speaker, she was born on September 18, 2001, at the University Hospital of Haiti’s State University in the capital of Haiti. She is one of three daughters of her parents. Stéphanie grew up in central Haiti, specifically in the commune of Lascahobas. The key word in this young woman’s life is "commitment"; indeed, from her adolescence, she joined the scouts movement. This experience would serve as a springboard for her to be useful to her community. In 2017, she was even named Scout of the Year for the Central Department. Thanks to her involvement with the scouts, she had the chance to travel across the country early on, organizing summer camps for a children’s association, in various locations across the national territory: from Gonaïves to Les Cayes, passing through Marchand Dessalines, Arcahaie, and Saint-Marc. The young girl she was at that time, with her parents’ permission, was able to cross the entire land of her birthplace, which naturally led to a genuine love for her country, a way of confirming the idea that those who see this country up close always end up falling in love with it.

A 100% Lakay Pap Jazz for 2025

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Haïti Jazz Foundation officially announced the launch of the 18th edition of Pap Jazz during a press conference with festival partners, such as the Canadian Embassy, represented by H.E. Mr. André François Giroux, the French Embassy represented by H.E. Mr. Antoine Michon, the Spanish Embassy represented by H.E. Mr. Marco Peñin Toledano, and the Mexican Embassy, represented by Mr. Jesús Cisneros, Chargé d’Affaires ad hoc of Mexico in Haiti. The Bank of the Republic of Haiti, represented by Mr. Rotchild Jean François Junior and Mrs. Stéphanie St Louis from the Direction of Artistic and Literary Creation, Ministry of Culture and Communication, Mr. Joel Widmaier, Artistic Director of the festival, along with the General Director of the Haïti Jazz Foundation, took the time to explain the details of this 18th edition, including the logistical complexities involved in organizing the festival this year due to the country’s precarious security situation. This edition will take place from March 20 to 22, 2025, across four venues: Quartier Latin, the Brazil-Haïti Cultural Center, the French Institute in Haiti, and the Karibe Hotel.

Living in Prose and Poetry: an unmissable summer event in Port-au-Prince.

Living in Prose and Poetry is an artistic and cultural event organized by the cultural organization Salon de Livre de Port-au-Prince (OCSLPAP) with the aim of bringing together young artists from the Haitian capital to exhibit them to a large audience . This edition will take place on Saturday July 27, 2024, at the pyépoudré cultural center, located at number 332 on the Route de Bourne. This year the organizers announce their mission is to bring together talents from various categories of arts, always with the aim of helping them to become familiar with each other, and to help create a solid link between them and the Haitian public. . The categories targeted by the organizers for this second edition are young poets, slammers, comedians, rappers, dancers, singers, painters, and writers who have already published at least one work. Living in prose and poetry will also be an opportunity to encourage Haitian youth to think. The first part of the event will be devoted to a discussion around a text by the famous Haitian writer Louis Philippe Dalembert, entitled The Other Face of the Sea. It is a novel which carefully addresses the subject of immigration and detachment that goes with it in the immigrant’s skin. It is a book that speaks openly to the reality of the Haitian people today. It has already been announced that this first part will be moderated by the journalist and literary critic Carl Pierrecq who works for the short story writer, and moderation will be provided by Pierre Marie, a young sociology student at the Faculty of Human Sciences (FASCH).
